Japanese investors already hold significant interests in Jamaica and it appears from what the Japanese Ambassador said at a recent investment forum in Kingston, there are even more investors who are eager to connect with the country.
His Excellency Hiroshi Yamaguchi, speaking at the Mayberry Investment’s Invest Forum, said the attitude of investors during a Japanese trade mission to the island last November convinced him of his position.
“Probably for the first time in our nearly 50-year bilateral history, executives from big giants like Marubeni, Hitachi and Fujitsu, in addition to officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, received presentations from JAMPRO and toured prospective investment sites across Jamaica,” the Ambassador stated.
“Ueshima Coffee Company (UCC), the largest marketer of Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee in Japan, and Marubeni Corporation, which currently owns an 80 per cent stake in the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS)” are both Japanese companies.
