More and more I see reasons to believe that RIM (Blackberry) loves Jamaica, and Jamaicans love Blackberrys. Of late there are increased signs of a thrust to increase Blackberry usage here in Jamaica including;
- Ads in the newspaper(s) advertising BBM (for at least 2 days straight)
- A recent agreement to donate 20,000 Blackberrys to Jamaican teachers
Based on information from the ministry as regarding the donation (which is going through the Canadian High Commission) seems to suggest that RIM will also be testing two of their newest features through this donation, which could be a big reason for the donation.
Under the partnership with RIM, the company will be making two of its newest technologies available to teachers – the Blackberry Mobile Voice System, which will reduce costs by having one phone extension for multiple numbers; and the Blackberry Pushcast to enable distribution of content such as PowerPoint presentations, videos, or audio files.
What do you think about this strategy?
